Going with geothermal heat pump for new house

Things being what they are, my wife and I wondered if it really was such a great idea to upgrade the HVAC equipment and get our house on the market.

Yet, there were some compelling reasons to do just that.

For one, our house has never been worth more by a mile. Then there’s the fact that our kids are grown so we really don’t need a house this size any longer. And the HVAC equipment really needs to be replaced anyway. Still, it’s a big commitment building one’s first home. But we went for it anyway and we’re glad we did. Part of our thinking was also how could we be as simple and sustainable in our new house. That’s where the idea of using a geothermal heat pump first germinated. And all it took for that idea to flower was a discussion about the benefits of geo heat pumps with our HVAC contractor. The thing is, a geo heat pump is perhaps some of the most efficient HVAC technology out there. The geothermal heat pump utilizes the near constant temperature of the earth to extracting heating and cooling energy. It costs a bit more up front. But the heating and cooling costs saving will last for the next 30 plus years. That is something to really feel good about and it’s totally in line with our sustainable thinking as well. Saving money on heating and cooling costs while protecting valuable natural resources really works quite well for us. So, we’re really happy that we built a small, simple yet technological advanced home where we’ll finish out our years together.
