Sometimes I wonder how I got through in life without having a smartphone on hand at all hours of the day.
This was life until 2013 when I tried a Windows smartphone on a whim because my cell phone carrier was no longer offering flip phones and slider phones.
I had to get something with a data contract, there just wasn’t a choice that year. Although my phone carrier started adding old phones again after so many complained, it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with the new technology. Suddenly I no longer got lost trying to find new businesses, whether I wanted to checkout a brand new store or if I had a doctor’s appointment at a different office than usual. All I have to do is open my maps app, type in the address or business name, and I’m immediately given the option of multiple routes and how long each will take. If I so desire, I can enable turn by turn instructions which narrates each step of the way like an old school vehicle GPS device. Another option that I have is entering a type of business, like restaurants, gyms, or bookstores, and then the application gives me a list of various options in whatever area I’m located. This is especially helpful if you’re in a city that you’re not used to. Recently I used this feature to find a commercial and industrial equipment company that offers chiller rentals. My best friend runs a large citrus processing plant and uses chillers to cool his equipment and his entire facility. Since his chillers are down for repairs right now, he needs to rent a temporary portable chiller so he can resume operations. He was thankful when I found a few options for him on my phone during our lunch outing the other day.
