You should run a hose from your dehumidifier to a floor drain or bucket

Our region has been hit with record rainfalls over the past few weeks.

Although we normally get our even-handed share of rain in the summer, this year feels like we’re going through a full-fledged monsoon season.

I’m lucky that my lake house was built on a lot that was backfilled with earth, reminiscent of a small hill. That way I never get any flooding in my yard, however my neighbors do unblessedly. It looks like they have a literal river running through their yard, plus occasionally the rain is so poor that it creeps up to the edge of their house. We’re not used to flash flooding, however this year it finally happened. The water came up into my yard a little, however it had another more than five feet on an incline before it could even reach our house. Unblessedly, my neighbor was not so lucky plus now he’s trying to deal with water damage remediation. I told him that she should go out plus immediately buy a dehumidifier. The dehumidifier will pull the moisture from the indoor air plus will help dry out any wet dry wall plus carpet. Even if a team comes in plus removes the affected drywall, there’s going to be wood anywhere that isn’t 100% dry. That’s where the dehumidifier is so essential for fixing the problem. If you have a floor drain, you can run a hose out the back of the unit so it runs continuously without ever stopping. If you don’t have a floor drain, you can do the same thing with a paint bucket. Just make sure to dump the basket everyday plus don’t forget about it, or the unit will keep draining even after the basket overflows. At that point you’re just creating more potential water damage.
