I feel sluggish and struggle to get moving
The lanai constructed on the back of my house provides an ideal workout space. The floor is smooth cement and the ceilings are ten-feet high. The entire back wall is built out of screens which provides a nice breeze and a wonderful view. Guests to my home are always surprised that I keep the lanai empty other than my workout equipment. It would be a great location for patio furniture and a television. I prefer to use the square footage for jumping rope, lifting weights, lunges, squats and abdominal crunches. The only drawback of the lanai is that it’s not able to be temperature controlled. For the majority of the year, that’s not a problem. My local area enjoys warm and beautiful weather most of the time. There are approximately four to six weeks in the winter where the temperature drops down into the low forties or even high thirties. I delay my workout until the conditions have warmed up during the middle of the day, and I bundle up in layers. It’s difficult to get warmed up and motivated. My muscles feel stiff and tight, and I worry about injury. I’m sometimes forced inside the heated area of the house where I have limited space. During the peak of summer, we experience temperatures in the mid to upper nineties. The humidity is brutal. I run a box fan on the lanai at maximum speed and stand directly in front of it. I make sure to workout first thing in the morning, prior to the heat of the day. It doesn’t help much. I’m normally dripping sweat before I even start my warmup. I feel sluggish and struggle to get moving. I need to be conscientious about drinking enough water. I’ve had difficulties with muscle cramps due to the heat and dehydration.
