My dad has been instrumental in my life and how independent I am.
When my mom passed away, he chose to raise me independently.
It wasn’t that hard since his sister and her family lived about five minutes from our house. So, we were always in their home eating dinner, and we never felt isolated from the world. My aunt was there to help me with many things that I’d need a mom to help me with. It was so funny when she and my dad took me bra shopping for the first time. But, I was glad I had a lovely and caring family all around me. When I finished high school, I wanted to go to a college near home, but dad wanted me to explore life. I went to college on the other side of the country, graduated, and built an amazing business. But, I never failed to go back home to see my old man. Last summer, I was there to help him with a few renovations, which included a new HVAC system for the house. The HVAC system he had was old and had been faulty all winter, so I told him I’d pay for a new one plus the installation fee. Knowing him, I told him I was doing that, and it wasn’t up for debate. I took a week from work, flew home, and contacted an HVAC company in the area. Dad was still using his old HVAC system, which came with a thermostat that used a remote control to adjust settings. He had a fancy new and energy-efficient HVAC system and a smart thermostat with an app he could control from his smartphone by the time I left.
