I have noticed recently that my A/C unit is acting funny.
- By acting funny, I mean the air conditioner keeps turning itself on, and then off again.
I have tried restarting it, but that didn’t do anything, as well as when I physically look at the A/C unit itself, everything appears to be normal, so I’m not sure what is causing this. Granted, I know next to nothing about HVAC devices, so I could easily be missing something obvious. I wanted to wait and see if my cooling component would continue to turn itself on and off, and so I waited a few days, and much to my unhappiness it did. Whenever I would have the A/C machine turned on, it wouldn’t stay on for long before it started short cycling again. I had to face the fact that this was a problem that was not going to go away on its own, and so I called a heating and air conditioning dealer, and explained the problem. They told me that it was most likely minor, but they would send out a HVAC repairman anyways. When the HVAC worker arrived, he looked at the HVAC device briefly, and discovered the problem in less than 5 minutes. The problem? The air filter. He asked how often I changed my A/C filter, and apparently I wasn’t changing it often enough. I probably changed my air filter every 6 months or so, but I should be doing so every couple of months at least. Once the old and dirty filter was removed, my cooling system was working like new.
