For most of my life, I lived in the North, but I have lived in the southeastern region of the country for almost ten years now.
- Living in more than one part of the country has allowed me to experience different weather conditions.
When I lived up north, I experienced all four seasons. I relied heavily on central heating because the winters were brutally cold. I often used the central heat during the fall as well! Some springs were colder than others; sometimes, in April and May, it even snowed, necessitating heat to be run during those months, as well. During the summer, I did use central air conditioning, but it was not always necessary. There were some beautiful, cool summer afternoons that afforded the opportunity to open windows and conserve air conditioning usage; fans were all that were needed. Now that I live in the South, I always rely on our central air conditioning. I use the air conditioning in the summer months every single day. The heat and humidity are so dire that I would most likely pass out if I did not have central air conditioning at home. I live in the northern part of the state, so the winters are sometimes mild. I use our central heat sparingly during those weeks and months. Occasionally I can get away with not using the central heat, but I use the air conditioning consistently in the summer, occasionally in the fall, and usually in the spring. If air conditioning did not exist, would I be able to tolerate living in the South?
