Using the thermostat to keep the in-laws away

My wife’s family is not something I particularly like. They are not the most hygienic of people. Additionally, they are very rude and judgmental. Every time I see them, they have an issue with how my life is going and they make sly little comments. They don’t seem to care that I am a successful owner of the neighborhood gas station. They really never amount to much, so I believe they are just jealous. I really feel bad for them, but I can’t help them if they don’t try to solve their own problems. Therefore, I try my best to stay away from them these days. I feel bad for my wife, but she is understanding of my situation. She made every effort to establish her own life because her family didn’t really have a great uprising. I was inspired by her achievements, so six years ago, we went on a date, and the rest is history. Thus, turning up the heater is my main strategy for keeping her in-laws at bay. I’ll set the thermostat to something like 85 degrees and wait outside until they arrive if I know they will be at the house within the hour. Even though I feel warm, I would rather tolerate a little warmth than be around them. Since they haven’t shown any decency, I suppose I’m being a little rude myself, but I’m at a loss for what to do next. I fiddle with the thermostat instead of screaming or arguing. For the past five months, I can say that it has been effective, but I’m starting to feel bad.
