As the plane took off, I was nervous, not because of the takeoff but because I would be home in a couple of hours.
I had not been home for a little over two decades, and I had no idea what to expect.
Finding out about my mother had rocked my world in the worst possible way because not only had she been alive for all those years, but she had died recently. What was initially supposed to be a two-week stay turned out to be three months of never-ending paperwork. By the end of it all, I was now an owner of an HVAC company that dealt with commercial HVAC for sale. I did not have the faintest idea of what went on in a commercial HVAC provider. I knew very little about heating and AC products because I had never had to use them before, but the situation at hand required that I know about new HVAC systems and how to run a home comfort business. You would think someone who owns and spent a portion of their life as an HVAC technician would have quality HVAC equipment, but no. Her house had an old furnace and a dial thermostat almost as old as I was. I was expecting those fancy ductless HVAC that I had to learn about since I heard about the business I expected to run. I had run out of money to stay at hotels, which left my mother’s house as the only option. The place was well taken care of but needed an HVAC tune-up to help with indoor comfort, and maybe much later, if I decide to stay, I would replace the thermostat.
