Animals in our air conditioner!

I walked over to the condenser unit to take a look inside, and hastily, I saw a bundle of sticks and moss deep inside the unit which is where the squeaking was coming from.

I generally don’t mind the woodland critters that tend to congregate in our yard and the woods surrounding our house! My partner and I appreciate watching their antics, whether it’s the birds of all colors and sizes that come after our feeder or the squirrels that also try to steal from the feeder. But speaking of squirrels, I had a bit of a conundrum recently as I was doing some yard work last Sunday. It is the middle of Springtime and things are starting to warm up; The people I was with and I had not turned on the air conditioner since late November, but it was starting to get warm enough for us to consider switching it on that very day… Anyway, I am cheerful I was in the yard breaking up some leaves and trimming the hedges a bit, because I noticed some creature-like squeaking coming from the outdoor component of our a/c. I walked over to the condenser unit to take a look inside, and hastily, I saw a bundle of sticks and moss deep inside the unit which is where the squeaking was coming from. I had to focus for a moment but I was able to discern little lumps of fur in what turned out to be a squirrel’s nest. I was so relieved that I had not turned on the condenser unit as the fan blades more than likely would have killed the squirrel babies. I actually was not going to attempt to transfer the nest on our own, so I called the local creature control to help myself and others out with safely removing the babies from the condenser unit.
