We have been dating for a few months now and I finally saw my boyfriend’s house.
The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door was how much his house smelled like a dog kennel.
I shouldn’t have been surprised. After all, he has 4 dogs. It wasn’t that the dogs were going to the bathroom in the house either. It was just a dog smell. We are nowhere near the point in our relationship where we are ready to move in together but all I could think of was that if I moved in with my dog then there would be 5 dogs in this house and it would smell even worse. I don’t know how to talk about it with my boyfriend either. I mean, he could get some air purifiers, like HEPA air purifiers, or something like that. He could also get a strong air filter for her HVAC system. I have even seen charcoal air filters that go in front of the regular air filter and help with smells. The problem is that I don’t think my boyfriend is aware that his house smells like dog. If I moved in I could start buying air purifiers and air filters myself. However, i wouldn’t want to move in until I knew that this overpowering dog smell could be handled. In fact, I don’t even want to stay in the house very long with such a strong smell going on. It is pretty bad. So I guess I will have to find a way to address it or something. Maybe I could just start gifting him air purifiers and hope he uses them. I don’t know. Is that rude?
