Filters in dehumidifiers need to be cleaned on a rolling basis

My dad taught me easy car maintenance like cleaning and vacuuming at an early age.

As I got older, the tasks grew in difficulty until I was able to do basic engine repairs by the age of 18.

I never had a desire to be an auto mechanic, but these skills have been extremely valuable to me. If I have the time, I like to get discounted oil and do my oil changes in my driveway since it doesn’t take me longer than 30 minutes to complete. This also gives me an excuse to check all of the other fluids in my car and top off anything that is getting low. My meticulous car maintenance has bled over into other areas of my life. I try to treat all of my appliances with the same dedication and care that I give my car. For instance, I use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity in my house down to the lowest possible levels attainable. But if you don’t keep the dehumidifier’s filter cleaned on a rolling basis, it deprives the machine of the necessary airflow so you don’t get the best performance possible. I simply clean the dehumidifier filter in an oversized sink in my laundry room. If I need to sanitize it, I use hydrogen peroxide and then I dry it with a paper towel. You have to be careful if you do a lot of cooking because the steam releases grease into the air. If the dust is sticking to the surface of your dehumidifier filter because of cooking grease, just use isopropyl alcohol on the filter before sanitizing it with hydrogen peroxide. The alcohol acts as a solvent and melts the cooking grease resin so the dust comes right off.
