I have some very vivid memories from growing up that I would much rather forget.
I’m sure that plenty of people feel this way.
Unfortunately, I think a lot of us went through difficult times and personal struggles that we have not yet settled up with. This has definitely been the case when it comes to most things with my family. In particular, recently I’ve been thinking about how uncomfortable the house always was. Not only because of all of the personal drama… But because of our lack of central heating and cooling. When I was growing up we didn’t have many resources. My mom was supporting three kids, so a high energy bill wasn’t exactly in the cards. She was very strict when it came to our thermostat, HVAC, & lighting usage around the house. She always wanted us to moderate our own temperatures through clothing and blankets. In the winter it was extremely cold because she did not want to run on the forced air furnace more than necessary. Every morning when I woke up I had to climb into my clothing before I got out of bed because there was no warm air pumping through the vents. It was excruciating my cold at night without any modern heating sources unless you were wrapped in several blankets and sitting in front of a space heater. Today, I’m just happy that my mom is actually utilizing her forced air furnace. Her central heating and cooling system has consistently been operating and there are times that I’m actually feeling overheated. Thank God the times and temps have changed.
