House rental doesn’t have central HVAC

When I found a new job it required that I relocate about 740 miles away.

Of course, that meant finding a new home to rent.

However, with the close turnaround for moving it didn’t leave us a lot of time to shop around for houses. My fantastic friend and I did get to see the apartment before my pal and I rented it either. My fantastic friend and I saw some pictures, liked the location, and signed the lease digitally. That turned out to be a giant mistake. It turns out that the apartment does not have central a/c or heating. I didn’t even guess to check when my pal and I were looking online. I just assumed that all houses have a/c and heating. Well not this one. When my pal and I arrived at our new apartment the proprietor was there with our keys. My fantastic friend and I then toured the house. I noticed that there was a window a/c device blasting away in the family room. It was cool and comfortable in the family room but only in the family room. The rest of the apartment was uncomfortably warm. Then I noticed that each room has a baseboard heater. I said something like, “doesn’t this apartment have central heating and air?” The proprietor said “no, it does not. It has what you see here”. Then he went on to say how that was mentioned in the advertisement and he got all defensive. So now I feel like we’ve gotten off on the wrong foot. I wish I hadn’t signed the one year lease separate from seeing the home first. I wonder if there is a way to back out of it separate from paying a lot of currency. I would rather live in a apartment that has central heating and air and it would be easier to just transfer now rather than wait until my pal and I unpack everything.
