I called for service on my HVAC system last week. I needed the furnace serviced and a new thermostat installed. The woman at the HVAC company gave me a time and told me I had a window of three hours for the HVAC technician to arrive. I asked her to bottom line just how many hours I needed to wait before I could leave the house? She told me that if I left before the HVAC technician arrived, I would need to pay for his time and reschedule another appointment. I thought this was ridiculous. I worked at a hospital and I didn’t have the time to sit around waiting for an HVAC technician. I asked what she meant by a three-hour window. She said they could be there up to three hours later than the time they quoted. They told me 11AM, and I had to be at work by 3 PM. Three hours waiting for an HVAC technician would put me home until 2 PM possibly just waiting. Depending on how long it took to do the service, I wouldn’t be leaving the house until almost 3 PM, and I was an hour away from the hospital. I told her the timing wouldn’t work. She said my only other alternative was to wait another week, and she could get me an appointment for around 7:30 AM. that was her earliest appointment and the window wouldn’t be a necessary. I took the 7:30 appointment with a different HVAC technician. I only hoped I didn’t fall asleep while he was talking to me. I didn’t get home until almost 4:30 AM.
