I told Mom I would die of heatstroke without AC

I’d never heard my mother laugh as hard as he did when I told him I’d die of heatstroke if we didn’t have air conditioning.

He assured me that my colleague and I would have plenty of cool weather ahead of us and that he would not turn on the air conditioning just yet.

It was eighty degrees outside, and it was only mid-May. He said it wasn’t the first time it had been cool in May, and it won’t be the last. The hot and cold temperatures were returning to the sixties until May, and he refused to deal with the air conditioning when my associate and I needed heat in the evening. I assumed he was being stubborn and didn’t want me to be comfortable. He wasn’t the one who had to sit in their room until they finished their homework. He didn’t have to stand in a stuffy family room while also preparing meals for the family. All he had to do was go to work, and I was confident he was capable of doing so. I had to express my feelings to him, and all he did was raise an eyebrow. He inquired if I was aware of what he had done. I was aware that he grew flowers. He was curious if I thought it was called a hot condo because there was a lot of air conditioning or because it had to be cool to keep the young plants alive. Maybe he had a point, but I wouldn’t say I knew what it was. I knew he’d had worse days at work than the few I’d been complaining about at school and at home, but I was hoping he’d put at least one A/C unit in the window. I’m hoping it’s my window.
