On December 31st of last year, I made the decision to get in better physical condition.
I hoped to lose weight, tone my muscles and improve my overall health.
My job is extremely sedentary and it’s too easy to snack and neglect physical activity. At the end of the workday, I never had the energy to exercise. I often grabbed take-out for dinner and then spent the rest of the evening on the couch watching television. On New Year’s Eve, after a considerable amount of drinking, I suddenly got motivated to make changes. I went online and found an ad for the local fitness center. They were offering a special that included significant savings on a year-long membership. I filled out the information, supplied my credit card numbers and within a couple of minutes, I was a brand new member of the gym. I took a virtual tour of the facility. One of the staff members demonstrated how to properly utilize all the different types of equipment. I was super anxious to get started. I immediately ordered myself a whole wardrobe of specialized workout attire. I bought shirts and shorts that are designed to be breathable and allow freedom of movement. I spent a fortune on specialized running sneakers and treated myself to a super cute water bottle. Actually stepping inside the gym was intimidating. The virtual tour hadn’t prepared me for the reality of a bunch of people who seemed to know what they were doing. I realized I had no idea how to get started. I headed to the stationary bike because it seemed the simplest. I managed to pedal the bike for an entire hour and burned quite a few calories. Although my legs were sore, I returned to the gym the following day. I gradually gained the confidence to try out the other machines.
