Many old homes do not have central heating and air conditioning

My husband Jeff is from the tiniest town that you can imagine.

The town is located in the Southern part of the country and there are only 618 residents living in it.

When he grew up, there were around 2,000, but over the years, many of the younger people left the town. Unfortunately, towns like those are typically farming towns with not a lot of opportunities for work outside of the agriculture industry. Jeff pursued a career in Finance, so there was no way he could’ve found a decent job in his town unless he opened his own business. Eventually, he would like to have a business of his own, but I truly doubt it will be in the town that he grew up in. Anyway, a few weeks ago, we visited his 100-year-old grandmother who has lived in the same house since she was in her mid-20s. Over the years, Jeff and his family did a few renovations, but the house was very old which was easily visible by the exterior. To be honest, most of the houses in the town were old as well, and many of them had no central air conditioning or heating. Some had fireplaces, window air conditioners, and I saw a few that had ductless mini split units. Jeff’s grandmother’s house has a fireplace, and she also has a ductless mini split HVAC unit. There were about 6 air handlers connected to the unit, so it made the entire house comfortable. It’s a different world out there in the country. The people don’t have the luxuries that we have in the city like central air conditioning and heating, but you know what they are so happy with the little that they have.
