I’m really not the type of person who can work without complete peace and quiet.
Or, I should say, I love to have background noise when I’m concentrating… as long as it’s background noise of my choosing.
This is why having 4 screaming, fighting, children was not going over well with my remote work for the past year. As soon as the pandemic began, I had no idea what to do with my bratty kids. They were perpetually battling each other in the house and disturbing everyone. Every five minutes they were fighting over the thermostat, in particular, because it was the only electronic device that they all were relying upon. Of course, I didn’t want to hear any of this temperature control drama. I just wanted them to go play outside, get some fresh air, and leave our indoor air quality control devices alone. Unfortunately, this was not within the realm of possibility for these kids who were determined to beat the crap out of our thermostat, heating system, cooling equipment, and each other. I could barely get through a single task without having to go rescue the indoor air temperature control devices from their grips and our energy bill was climbing through the roof with all of their HVAC abuse. That’s when I couldn’t take it anymore. I went out and bought several mini split ductless heating and cooling devices, installed them easily throughout the entire house, and went back to work. Now the kids each have a separate heating and cooling device to use. They never have to fight over the central thermostat. My energy bills are decreasing again. And I finally have some peace.
