There are also misters on the walls controlled by remotes, so that riders can spray themselves with a cool mist when needed
I’ve been participating in motocross since I was a kid; I remember my first ride on a dirt bike when I was eight years old. I knew right away that I had found my passion! Throughout my childhood, most of my motocross tournaments were in the summer. I grew up in a hot climate, where hot and humid summer weather is no joke. Between the thick summer air and the padding and safety gear we wear to ride, motocrossers are a sweaty bunch! When I was ten, a fellow rider was injured during a summer tournament; he didn’t get hurt on the track, he fell over from heat exhaustion and hit his head during a break. After the incident, my local league decided to install a “cool-down room” at our track. During the off-season, a team of contractors came out to build our frozen paradise. The HVAC system in the room is truly amazing. Not only does it keep the air cool and dry during the hottest time of the year, but it’s expertly designed: there are about twenty vents (in a pretty small room) so that riders can always be sitting near a vent, soaking up the chilly air from the cooling system. There are also misters on the walls controlled by remotes, so that riders can spray themselves with a cool mist when needed. And the ventilation system must be fantastic, because despite the number of sweaty, dirty kids and teens crammed into the “cool-down room” at any given time, it never smells in the room. One weekend, as a teen, I did see an HVAC technician changing the air filter, though. That thing was almost black from the amount of dirty we brought inside from the track! The “cool-down room” offered a huge quality-of-life boost for me and the other riders!
