I’ve never been the sort of parent who micromanages our kids’ lives.
I allow them to be kids and also ensure they have some responsibilities around the house. Occasionally I leave them lake house alone and rush to town to run errands. We’ve consistently taught them about safety and ensured they understand their responsibilities as members of our household. This is why I was surprised at what they did last Summer when I went to the store to buy a few things. I remember coming up the driveway, and they were seated outside, waiting for me. Their guilty faces told me they’d done something wrong and knew there was no hiding it from me. I got out of our car, took the groceries inside the house and realized the AC was off. They began explaining that they were in the backyard mowing the shrubbery and had lost control of the shrubberymower. The heavy mower plowed the over, which was why the AC was off in the house. Since I knew this had been an accident, I chose not to scold them. Instead, I went outside to assess the damage and iPhoned an section Heating and A/C business for assistance. The people I was with and I were in luck since there was an Heating and A/C specialist in the area, and he came by an second later. The wasn’t badly disfigured, however there were a few parts that he had to replace. The kids tried offering their allowances to pay for the Heating and A/C repair, even though I told them this wasn’t necessary since this had been an accident.
