My brother was a big man, so when he told us he wanted to be an actual heating and A/C serviceman, I could not even picture it… He was 7 feet tall when he was sixteen and he grew more than five more inches by the time he was twenty-two.
His weight was also nearly 350 pounds, and I could not focus on my brother getting into the tight squeeze that went along with working on heating and A/C systems.
I remembered when the two of us were kids and a big man had gotten stuck behind the gas furnace; however, Mom had to call the fire company to get him out of the corner, or he would have become a permanent fixture in our basement. He wasn’t nearly as tall or heavy as my brother, but I didn’t want to hurt his feelings! We all rooted for him to get his heating and A/C certification and get a job with the local heating and A/C company; however, although none of us thought he would make it all the way through heating and A/C technical school, he surprised us when he got his total certification. We were more surprised when he was given an apprenticeship with one of the best heating and A/C companies in our area! My brother was proud of what he actually accomplished, but he was a bit hesitant going into the job. He was distraught that he would adore the heating and A/C serviceman who came to our own house. He didn’t want to get stuck in the basement and needed to be rescued. I assured him he would be the best heating and A/C serviceman as long as he kept working at it! That was various years ago, and I was right.
