Several months ago when the economy took a downturn I knew that life was about to change.
My mom lost her job and the government benefits we’re not helping her to support all of the major expenses in her life. The next thing I knew, my mom was asking if she could move into my house. Of course, I wouldn’t turn my mom away so I started trying to figure out a way to make this arrangement work. To be clear, she’s not the easiest human being to deal with and I wasn’t feeling extremely optimistic about the idea. I decided she could stay in my spare room as long as I was able to install a separate heating, cooling, and air quality control system for her. Why does the HVAC system matter, you ask? Because my mom is a bit of an air quality control psycho. She is so convinced that indoor air quality is linked to her overall immune health that she will throw a temper tantrum if she’s not receiving the most high quality indoor air possible. She absolutely loves adjusting the thermostat at her house so that she constantly has circulating indoor air. Even if the air temperature seems perfectly fine, she will get up and adjust the thermostat by 1 or 2 degrees just so she can hear the HVAC equipment running in the background. Of course, I can’t afford this uptick in my monthly energy bills or my routine heating and cooling expenses. As such, I’m going to give my mom a mini split ductless heating and cooling system to manage her own indoor air quality. After that, I don’t want to hear a word about it.
