Soft landing and some great HVAC after layoff

Like so many other people out there, I too was laid off during the pandemic.

At first, it was just leaving the zone controlled HVAC of the downtown office to work from home.

But by the time I sort of got myself set up to work from home, I got the pink slip. This was my first job out of college so I was a predictable casualty. Can’t say that I was all that surprised though. I tried to hold on to the apartment I had. But once it was time to renew the lease, I knew I had to take my parents up on their kind offer to come home. Really, that apartment was easy to let go because the residential HVAC was inadequate and the neighbors were really, really loud. Still, this was me giving up my newly won complete independence. Sot that just wasn’t very easy. But my folks are great and they made it really easy for me to make the transition to living with them. In fact, my dad and I were able to finally complete a project together that he had been trying to get done for a decade or more. We turned the finished basement into an awesome one bedroom apartment. With its own entrance, plumbing and room, it was easy to add the rest. Dad and I put in a small, galley kitchen, painted and furnished the place. We were even able to install a shower together. But the heating and cooling we left up to the HVAC professionals. They came in and installed a ductless heat pump. This was my first introduction to the ductless heat pump. And man, am I ever impressed.
