I still remember the first time I realized what storm warnings were meant for.
My mother immediately told us we needed to secure everything from the strong wind and possible heavy rain we would experience. I was old enough to be included in the activities, and that’s when I got to experience the activities meant to secure our HVAC installation from the storm. We had a newly installed electric heat pump, and my parents were not taking any chances. First, we adjusted the thermostat and closed the windows for climate control in case there was a power outage and our cooling equipment failed. We also scheduled to cut off power to the cooling equipment just before the storm fell to avoid damage in case we got power surges. We did this with all the electronics. For the outdoor cooling components, we worked on a way to shield them from debris that could damage it. We had no idea how long it would take for the storm to pass, so we called the HVAC business and scheduled an inspection once the storm cleared because my dad could only trust a cooling technician on the safety of the equipment. We knew that the cooling corporation would have a busy period after the storm because people would call for their quality AC service and exceptional cooling specialist team to help with indoor comfort. Buying new cooling technology equipment was missing from my parents’ list, so we had to do our best and involve an HVAC contractor in securing our equipment. Lucky for us, we were among the first to book the post-storm services from the local service provider, so we wouldn’t have to wait long.
